I do not remember being in Dumas, TX this past year; but I guess I was. Because I had this little snip of paper with me for quite a while already. There's a quick note at the top of the snip of paper that says Dumas TX.
I remember drawing it. Based on some lettering that I had seen on the side of a building (Dumas TX?). But I don't remember if the words that were actually On the building were 'Today is a Special Day', or if that was my own words drawn in a similar style.
I revisited the style today. Trying to figure out what I had done back on that day. When? Where? Dumas TX? Anyway, I figured it out:

Whatever a person wears ~ tells a lot about that person. Whether it be their choice of how they want to represent themselves ~ or if it be their circumstances os what is available for them.... So I feel fascinated to draw whatever it is that they are wearing. Usually, that is Not 'high fashion', by which I mean what we might see in a Fashion Magazine such as Vogue.
Still.... it is a special kind of fun for the artist when people wear 'fashions'. Fancy clothes. Whatever you want to call it. What I mean is when they get dressed up:

I drew 6 Caricatures based on the Same Random Reference Photo. One of the 2 Excellent Caricatures if my Favorite. One Caricature is 'eh'. And the other 3 Caricatures are ok.
I wonder if you can tell which is which. I wonder if you can tell which 2 are Excellent Art, and which one is blah Hack Stuff

Client asked me to draw Caricature in studio. From this photo.
Jumping in to it. I'm rarely in the Zone as soon as I start. So I drew what I saw. Made mistakes on the first 2 attempts. The 3rd one was good, so I colored it in.
By then, I Knew a lot about this face. So I easily, yay, made the 4th Caricature. New Style! This is what draws a crowd at Events. It's easy to do..... but only when I Can do it.
and just for exercise, for comparison, I forced myself to draw it plainly. Like a fill-in-the-blanks sort of hack. It's so frusrating when it turns out that this is what a fearful person wants. Uninteresting. Dull.
Oh. oh. alright. Then I just drew her as a basic 'pretty girl' face. Safe. loved by self-conscious people who have no confidence. This keeps a Party as dull as the picture is 'safe'. But I do Not like to buy into the trappings of social stigmas. Who ever decided that they only like smiling girls with dainty mouths and barely a hint of a nose? If you honestly Love a person, you would prefer her idiocyncracies. And if you came to the Party to have Fun, you would feel delighted to Play with those idiocyncracies.
